The technique of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of the testis was initially used as a diagnostic procedure in azoospermic men. Subsequently, testicular FNA for the recovery of spermatozoa has been developed. In FNA, a fine needle is used to extract sperm from areas of sperm production in the testis of patients with nonobstructive azoospermia.
